Different Types of Adoption
There are several avenues for families wishing to adopt. Keep in mind adoption is permanent and not a commitment to be entered lightly into. It is not something which can be undone, as a marriage can, for instance.
Step-parent and Intra-family adoptions are adoption by family members and other "best friends". These are called independent adoptions and require that one of the parties has lived in Oregon for at least six months prior to filing the adoption petition. Notice of the adoption must be given to the grandparents whose child's parental rights will be terminated by adoption.
Other types of adoptions include State of Oregon adoptions, Agency adoptions and Foreign adoptions.
